From Pack Assembly to Made-in-India Cells: EverythingEV.in’s Vision

Date: February 1, 2026
Today marks a pivotal moment for India's EV ambition. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Union Budget 2026-27, presented today, is not just about fiscal numbers; it's a clear signal that "Make in India" for advanced technologies like EV batteries is no longer a dream – it's a national mandate backed by serious incentives.
At EverythingEV.in, where we've built a reputation for assembling high-quality battery packs and servicing EVs across Mumbai, we see this as our call to action. We're ready to take the next leap: manufacturing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells right here in India.
Why LFP Cell Manufacturing, and Why Now?
India’s EV sector is booming, but the heart of every EV—the battery cell—is still predominantly imported. This reliance creates supply chain vulnerabilities, impacts pricing, and limits our technological independence.
LFP chemistry is the backbone of most affordable EVs due to its safety, long cycle life, and cost-effectiveness. The time is ripe for local production, driven by a confluence of factors:
- Market Demand: Our experience in Mumbai proves the insatiable demand for reliable, affordable EV solutions. Local cell production directly addresses this.
- Technological Maturity: LFP cell manufacturing processes are well-established, allowing for a structured and scalable approach.
- National Mandate: The government's push for "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" in critical minerals and advanced manufacturing is stronger than ever.
Union Budget 2026-27: The Game Changer for "Make in India" Cells
Today's budget announcements provide the critical impetus for our vision:
- Zero Customs Duty on Capital Goods for Cell Manufacturing: This is massive. The Finance Minister’s exemption of basic customs duty on machinery and equipment used for lithium-ion cell manufacturing directly slashes our initial capital expenditure. This means more of an investor's rupee goes into actual production capacity, rather than import tariffs.
- The Component Champion PLI Scheme: While "Giga-factories" often grab headlines, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Auto & Auto Components is tailored for companies like ours. It offers 8% to 18% incentives on the sales value of advanced automotive technology components—and a locally manufactured battery cell fits this perfectly. This provides a substantial, de-risked revenue stream for early-stage cell production.
- SME Growth Fund (₹10,000 Crore): The newly announced fund is a direct opportunity for MSMEs in strategic sectors like Green Energy. This fund can provide crucial matching capital or debt to get our pilot line off the ground.
- "Biopharma Shakti" & Semiconductor Mission 2.0: While not directly for batteries, these missions signal the government's strong intent to foster deep tech manufacturing in India, creating a skilled talent pool and supportive ecosystem that benefits all advanced manufacturing.
Our Roadmap: From Pilot Line to Giga-Scale, Backed by Data
Our strategy begins with a Pilot LFP Cell Assembly Line right here in an industrial hub near Mumbai. This initial investment (estimated at ₹65 Lakh to ₹1.1 Crore for core equipment) will allow us to:
- Prove the Process: Demonstrate consistent production of Grade-A LFP cells.
- Validate Local Sourcing: Utilize cutting-edge LFP cathode materials from Indian suppliers like Altmin (Hyderabad) and anode materials from Epsilon Advanced Materials (Karnataka), minimizing import dependency.
- Secure "Component Champion" Status: Leverage our initial production to qualify for the PLI scheme, guaranteeing a healthy return on sales.
This pilot phase isn't just about manufacturing; it’s about generating validated data and securing government incentives that de-risk the path to true Giga-scale production.
Our Vision: To evolve from a trusted EV service provider and pack assembler into a foundational pillar of India's EV supply chain, producing the very cells that power the nation's electric future.
